Plot:
Come, child, and listen to the tale your elders will tell.
Listen well, child, and learn the mistakes of the past.
For now is a difficult time, and your merit will be tested.
Learn well, child, and do not repeat the errors of the past.
Years ago, Sikatra Valley’s peaceful environment was disrupted by the forces of a dark horse who intended to make the land his own, and for all other horses to bow to his will and follow his reign. That horse was Joker, who became known to all horses as the King of the Darks, his very name feared as much as his presence. The horses who inhabited the peaceful land were divided. Some joined Joker, driven by dreams of power. Some stood against him, driven by dreams of freedom for all horses. And some could not decide, or would not decide, and became the neutrals. These three alliances, darks, lights, and neutrals, claimed their lands and the war began.
For years the alliances grew as newcomers were drawn into the growing conflict. Horses emerged as leaders of the alliances. Joker himself claimed the throne of King of the Darks. Minority, whose name has become synonymous with hero, rose to lead the lights. The neutrals were presided over by the kind horse known as Yager. Mates were claimed by the kings, and were named queens. Their names have been lost to the history of the horses, all except the feared name of Sanora, the Shadow Queen who was as vicious as her mate, Joker.
Heirs were created and raised, the herds grew. Dissention between the darks arose and was quelled. Then, finally, everything happened at once. With the death of his mate and first daughter, Joker finally lost all patience with waiting and planning. He led the army of the darks with his son against the light.
The battles were said to be the worst any had ever seen, and, fueled by anger and the pain of loss, the darks were winning. The kings Yager and Minority became lost; not killed, but their locations unknown. It was said that they left to find allies in far away lands. But they have yet to return. Still, they both were regarded as heroes for the valiant fight against Joker that they held for as long as they did.
New kings rose to take their places, their names as lost as the names of the queens of those lands. The alliances were weak under these new leaders, and it seemed assured that Joker would prevail. And then, devastation struck the King of the Darks. It had always been thought that an earthquake had taken his mate and his first daughter, but now he found that his second daughter, with the help of others, had been the one to strike them down, fueled by her jealousy of her older siblings. She had covered her tracks well, but now Joker knew. He told no one, not even his own son, but he simply stopped fighting. His son and the others rose to continue the fight, but without his leadership, even the weakened other alliances could fell them with little effort.
The darks were driven out, the ancient lands restored to the lights and neutrals. Life returned to normal in the valley of Sikatra. The dark lands that had once been claimed by the darks now flourished. The kings resigned their positions, freeing all horses to live free as they pleased. The ancient alliance between small herds came to be known again, and the lands prospered as they had before: in peace.
And the darks were forgotten. The victors became complacent. And now, years later, a stallion in his prime, his coat a stunning mixture of white and black, has come to the lands, the lead stallion of a small band of ragged horses, with a younger mare not his mate at his side, helping him to lead. Unaware of the danger this herd presented, the horses of Sikatra welcomed them as if they were their own, and this herd entered the lands unopposed.
Unbeknownst to the peaceful horses of Sikatra, they had just allowed their greatest enemy to return to these lands. But this proud young stallion was not Joker; this was Hinrichten, Prince of the Darks, assisted by his younger sister, Moth. Soon after he and his band of darks were allowed in, they repeated the work of his father. The southern lands were claimed by them; horses of the land joined them with the wish of power. And Hinrichten claimed the throne of King of the Darks, as his father had done so before him so many years ago.
Seven years after the fall of the darks, they have returned to try again. Who now will rise to lead the lights and the neutrals? Who now will join each side? Who will be the victor this time around in this, the Sonnet of the Wild?
((This is a re-make/continuation of the old RP Forum Sonnet of the Wild that is linked to in Hinrichten's profile on the site. More information on history can be found there, but this is the basic plot of what will be happening on this forum. And yes, Hinrichten knows that the part up top there is incredibly cheesy, and no she was not trying to rhyme or write poetry. She claims to be a horrible poet. So yeah, that's all she has to say about that.))

Activity: we need more - not many people know about it, so few people are on... only 6 or 7, I think.
ALSO: currently, there are still five royal positions left.
